After a long international flight, the last thing you want is to search through emails for your hotel address, return ticket, or clinic appointment.

For most travelers, Korean immigration is straightforward.

Good preparation simply makes the process easier.

Keep your passport accessible

Your passport should stay with you throughout your journey.

Never put it in checked baggage.

Before departure, make sure:

  • It is valid

  • It is not damaged

  • Your name matches your ticket

  • It is the same passport used for your visa or K-ETA, where applicable

If you hold multiple passports, be consistent about which passport you use for entry.

Save your accommodation information

Know exactly where you will stay in Korea.

Save:

  • Accommodation name

  • Full street address

  • Telephone number

  • Booking confirmation

Do not rely only on knowing the neighborhood.

For example:

“Gangnam” is not a complete accommodation address.

Keep your return or onward flight information

You should know when you plan to leave Korea.

Save:

  • Departure date

  • Airline

  • Flight number

  • Next destination

Having a downloaded or screenshot version is useful in case mobile data is unavailable.

Know the purpose of your visit

You may be asked basic questions about your trip.

Answer simply and accurately.

Examples:

Tourism

“I am visiting Seoul for tourism for seven days.”

Tourism and clinic appointment

“I am visiting Korea for tourism and a clinic appointment.”

Medical treatment

“I am visiting Korea for medical treatment at a clinic in Seoul.”

Do not create a complicated explanation.

A clear factual answer is best.

If you are visiting a clinic

Keep your clinic information available.

Useful details include:

  • Clinic name

  • Address

  • Telephone number

  • Appointment date

  • Appointment time

  • Appointment confirmation

  • Treatment schedule, if relevant

This can be especially useful when a medical visit is a major reason for your trip.

Questions you may be asked

Not every traveler is asked the same questions.

Possible questions include:

Why are you visiting Korea?

How long are you staying?

Where are you staying?

When are you leaving?

Do you have a return flight?

Which clinic are you visiting?

The purpose is not to memorize answers.

Simply know your own itinerary.

Save important information offline

Do not assume that mobile data will work immediately after landing.

Before flying, save screenshots or offline copies of:

  • Hotel reservation

  • Flight itinerary

  • Clinic appointment

  • Transportation directions

  • Important phone numbers

  • Travel insurance information

You may also keep a backup copy of your passport, but remember:

A digital copy does not replace your physical passport.

Create a Korea Trip folder

A simple way to stay organized is to create one folder on your phone.

Call it:

KOREA TRIP

Inside, save:

01 Passport backup
02 Flights
03 Accommodation
04 Clinic
05 Insurance
06 Transportation
07 Emergency contacts

This takes only a few minutes and can save significant time during your trip.

After immigration

Once you clear immigration and collect your luggage, you may need to arrange:

  • eSIM or mobile data

  • Airport transportation

  • Transportation card

  • Hotel transfer

  • Clinic transportation

  • Currency or payment setup

You can find those topics in other Wellisia Guides.
